The SCHMID SE 350 Horizontal Machining Center is engineered for high-speed, efficient machining of long and narrow workpieces such as floor crossbeams, with an X-axis travel of 299.21 inches (7,600 mm), Y-axis travel of 39.37 inches (1,000 mm), and Z-axis travel of 21.654 inches (550 mm). The machine features two movable gantries equipped with vertical work spindles, enabling simultaneous machining across the entire length of the part for increased productivity. The main spindle delivers a maximum speed of 24,000 RPM and is powered by a 69.7 horsepower (52 kW) drive, ensuring robust performance for demanding applications. Tooling is managed via an automatic tool changer (ATC) with a capacity of 60 tools, utilizing HSK 63 tool holders for secure and precise tool engagement. The CNC control system is based on Siemens 840 D, providing advanced programming and operational flexibility. The workpiece is mounted on a swivel beam with a horizontal swivel range of ±100°, allowing three-sided machining without repositioning. Hydraulic clamping ensures secure workpiece fixation, while the pallet can support weights up to 1,000 kg. The tool magazines are positioned as circular units at the sides of the machine bed for optimal accessibility. Positioning accuracy is maintained at ±0.015 mm (VDI/DGQ 3441), and the machine’s overall dimensions are approximately 18,500 x 4,000 x 4,000 mm.
