The SMEC SL 6500M is a heavy-duty horizontal turning center designed for precision machining operations. This machine features a 21-inch chuck diameter with a maximum swing capacity of 41 inches, accommodating large workpieces up to 5.51 inches in bar diameter. The single main spindle operates at 1,500 RPM with 50 horsepower, providing substantial torque for demanding cutting applications. The machine utilizes a BMT 85 primary tool carrier with a 12-station motorized turret capable of holding tools on both left and right sides of each station for maximum flexibility. With rapid turret indexing at 0.25-second intervals and repeatability of ±0.01 inches, the SL 6500M delivers efficient non-stop, bi-directional tool changes. The rigid 45-degree torque tube bed design with heavily ribbed Meehanite casting ensures excellent vibration dampening and thermal stability during high-load turning operations. The two-axis control system (X and Z axes) works with FANUC Series 0i-TF CNC, providing precise command increments of 0.001mm. Large-diameter precision Curvic coupling with substantial clamping force enables heavy-duty cutting while maintaining accuracy.
