Technical Description

The Sodick VL600Q is a precision wire electrical discharge machine (EDM) engineered for high-accuracy machining across aerospace, automotive, and electronics industries. This machine utilizes controlled electrical discharges to cut intricate components from materials including tungsten, stainless steel, and graphite with superior precision compared to traditional CNC machining. The VL600Q features linear motor technology with X, Y, U, and V axes driven by flat rigid linear motors coupled with glass scale feedback, delivering zero backlash and positioning accuracy backed by Sodick's 10-year guarantee. The machine accommodates workpieces up to 850 kg (1,874 lbs) within a work tank measuring 1,040 x 780 mm. Wire diameter capability ranges from 0.004" to 0.012" (0.10 to 0.30 mm) with wire tension adjustable from 3-23 N and maximum feed speed of 420 mm/sec. Travel specifications include 600 mm (X-axis), 400 mm (Y-axis), and 270-350 mm (Z-axis) with optional UV axis travel of 80 mm. The integrated automatic wire threader handles spools up to 22 pounds and accepts wire diameters from 0.004" to 0.012". The CNC control utilizes Sodick's user-friendly Heart NC software with touch-screen interface, supporting DXF file import and automatic G-code generation. Advanced features include spark-tracking technology, improved surface finish circuitry, ceramic components, and an automatic dielectric fluid level control system. The machine delivers surface finishes to 0.36 μm Ra with machining accuracy of ±3 μm.
