SOUTH BEND 20" TURN-NADO MANUAL LATHE

The South Bend 20" Turn-Nado Manual Lathe is a robust, precision-engineered geared head engine lathe designed for heavy-duty turning applications. It features a 20-inch swing over bed and saddle wings, a 13-inch swing over cross slide (14 inches without chip guard), and a 4-inch swing over compound rest, providing ample clearance for large workpieces. The lathe is equipped with an 8-inch D-1 Cam-Lock spindle nose and a 3.15625-inch hole through the spindle, accommodating sizable bar stock. The spindle is driven by a two-speed motor (10-5 HP), delivering 18 speeds ranging from 30 to 1580 RPM for versatile machining. The bed measures 13 inches wide and 150 inches long, with a 106-inch distance between centers, supporting extended workpieces. Thread cutting is highly flexible, offering 60 thread selections with ranges from 2.75 to 160 TPI (20T stud gear) and 1.375 to 2.5 TPI (40T stud gear). Longitudinal feeds range from 0.0021 to 0.1242 inches, and cross-feeds from 0.0011 to 0.0678 inches. The lead screw spans 1.375 to 4 inches, and the cross-feed travel is 12.25 inches (14 inches with taper attachment). The compound rest offers 3.5 inches of travel, and the square tool post opening measures 1 inch by 1.109375 inches. The tailstock spindle is 2.5 inches in diameter with 6 inches of travel and a No.4 Morse taper. The lathe allows a set-over of 0.5 inches in either direction for taper turning. The overall length is 162 inches, making it a substantial machine for industrial environments.
