Technical Description

The STAR SW-20 is an 11-axis horizontal CNC Swiss-type machining center optimized for high-precision small-part manufacturing. It supports bar diameters up to 0.780" and machining lengths to 3.160" on both main and sub spindles, each driven by 5 HP motors at speeds reaching 10,000 RPM. The machine features two opposing tool carriers—front and rear—with up to 4 turning and 3 rotary tools on the primary (front) carrier and up to 6 turning and 3 rotary tools on the secondary (rear) carrier. Rotary tools operate at 8,000 RPM with 1.59 HP each, enabling complex multi-axis milling, drilling, and tapping on- and off-center with 'C' and 'Y' axis capabilities. The SW-20 allows simultaneous operation of up to three cutting tools, maximizing productivity. The design includes an 8-station backworking unit and advanced FANUC 31i-B5 control with electronic handwheel, supporting independent sub-spindle backworking and dynamic tool path management through Star Motion Control System software. The machine offers a maximum rapid traverse speed of 35 m/min and a coolant capacity of 150 liters. Overall dimensions are approximately 2,588 x 1,300 x 1,765 mm, and the weight is around 3,400 kg. Equipped with sophisticated Y-axis control and multiple power-driven tool options, the SW-20 excels in machining complex geometries from materials such as titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum, all in a single setup, minimizing idle times and enhancing throughput. This combination of dual spindles, overlapping tool posts, and multi-axis milling/drilling functions makes the SW-20 a versatile and highly efficient solution for precision Swiss-type turning and machining operations.
