Technical Description
The VT-50A x 3000 is the 3,000 mm bed version of the VT-50A, a large slant-bed CNC lathe listed by Taiwanese builder Alex-Tech Machinery and sold in the US under the Mighty Viper name. The bed is set at 45 degrees. It swings 1,000 mm (39.37 in) over the Z-axis way cover and 740 mm (29.1 in) over the cross slide, turns parts up to 860 mm (33.85 in) in diameter and takes a maximum turning length of 2,900 mm (114.2 in). The spindle has an A2-15 nose, a 235 mm (9.25 in) through-hole and 320 mm front bearings. A 45 kW (60 hp) motor drives it over two speed ranges, 1-300 and 300-750 rpm. A 12-station static turret takes 32 mm square shanks and 60 mm boring bars, and indexes in 1.2 seconds with the hydraulic drive or 0.5 seconds with the servo option. X travel is 430 + 30 mm and Z travel 2,930 mm, with rapids of 16 m/min on X and 9 m/min on Z for this bed length. The tailstock has a 150 mm quill with 150 mm of travel and an MT-6 taper. The machine occupies 7,825 x 2,815 mm of floor space and weighs 18,900 kg (41,667 lb).
