A+Technical Description
The Willemin 701S Vertical Machining Center is a high-precision micro-machining solution engineered for ultra-high-speed and sub-micron accuracy in demanding applications such as watchmaking, optics, and micro-molding. Utilizing delta-type parallel kinematics, the 701S features three linear axes (X: 2 inches, Y: 1.2 inches, Z: 1.2 inches) driven by direct linear motors, enabling rapid accelerations up to 50 m/s² and feed rates of 72 m/min. The machine’s compact footprint (~1 m²) and low moving mass ensure dynamic stability and minimal energy consumption. At its core is an ultra-high-speed fixed spindle capable of 80,000 RPM, delivering exceptional surface finishes (Ra 0.25) and precision without the need for traditional tool holders—tools are directly cold-shrunk onto the spindle. The CNC control system, based on a PC platform, executes control loops at a high frequency (100 kHz), supported by measuring scales with 10 nanometer resolution for submicronic contour tracking. The integrated automatic tool changer (ATC) accommodates 36 tools in a removable magazine, optimizing tool management for complex micro-machining strategies. The 701S is designed for one-clamping, double-face machining and supports advanced interpolation techniques, reducing the number of tools required and minimizing cycle times. With a total installed power of 8.4 kW, the machine combines high performance with low operating costs. Its ergonomic design, swarf management with built-in filtration, and customizable automation options make the 701S ideal for high-precision, high-efficiency production of small, complex components.
