Technical Description
The Berkshire LD-1324E is a high-speed precision lathe engineered for versatile turning operations. With a swing over bed of 330mm (13 inches) and a distance between centers of 610mm (24.02 inches), this machine accommodates mid-range workpieces with excellent accessibility. The swing over cross slide measures 195mm (7-5/8 inches), while the gap bed configuration extends swing capacity to 490mm (19-1/4 inches), enabling machining of larger diameter components when the gap is utilized.
The lathe operates at spindle speeds ranging from 82 to 2000 RPM, providing flexibility for various material types and surface finishes. It features a D1-4 camlock spindle with MT5 spindle nose and MT3 tailstock bore, ensuring rapid tooling changes and precise alignment. The machine incorporates hardened and ground bedways with a bed constructed from high-tensile cast iron FC250, delivering rigidity and thermal stability essential for precision work.
Standard equipment includes a 2HP single-phase or 3HP three-phase main drive motor, complete electric control unit, 4-way tool post, and rapid foot brake. The lathe accepts metric or imperial specifications per customer requirements, with available lead screw configurations and reading dials accommodating either measurement system. Threading capabilities include 30 metric pitches (0.4-7.0mm) and 32 imperial pitches (4-56TPI), while longitudinal feed rates span 12 options (0.068-0.936mm/rev) or 16 imperial options. Standard accessories encompass D1-4 back plates, center sleeves, coolant pump equipment, and a floor stand, making this lathe suitable for job shops and precision manufacturing environments.
