A+Technical Description
The 2005 Bridgeport is a 3-axis vertical machining center produced under the Bridgeport brand, which was acquired by Hardinge Inc. in 2005. Machines from this transitional year continued to be built on the established VMC 1000 platform with refinements including updated CNC controls and enhanced spindle options. The machine features a 45.3-inch by 19.3-inch worktable with a 22-tool automatic tool changer and CAT 40 or BT 40 spindle taper. The spindle motor delivers 15 HP with a standard speed range up to 6,000 RPM; a high-speed 10,000 RPM option was available. X-axis travel is 40.2 inches, Y-axis travel is 20.1 inches, and Z-axis travel is 19.7 inches. The CNC control is a Heidenhain iTNC 530 or equivalent, offering full 3D contouring, high-speed machining cycles, and Look Ahead block processing. Rapid traverse is 394 IPM on all axes. The machine is constructed with a rigid cast-iron base and column with recirculating-ball linear guideways and precision-ground ballscrews. Standard equipment includes flood coolant, automatic lubrication, and coolant-through-spindle capability on selected configurations. Overall machine dimensions are approximately 102 inches long by 85 inches wide by 103 inches tall, with a machine weight of approximately 8,378 lbs. The 2005 Bridgeport VMC is a transitional machine between the Connecticut-built era and the Hardinge-era production, and retains the robust construction characteristics that made the Bridgeport VMC platform one of the most recognized in the North American market.
