Technical Description

The 2023 Chiron FZ12 is a 3- to 5-axis CNC vertical machining center from Chiron Group SE of Tuttlingen, Germany, representing the current generation of the Series 12 platform — a substantial step up in power and work envelope from the FZ08 family. The spindle delivers up to 40 kW (approximately 54 HP) and is configurable from 12,000 RPM in the standard version to 30,000 RPM in high-speed variants, with HSK-A40, HSK-A50, or HSK-A63 tooling available depending on application. Axis travels are 550 mm (21.7 inches) in X, 400 mm (15.7 inches) in Y, and 400 mm (15.7 inches) in Z. A chip-to-chip time of 2.7 seconds and tool magazine capacity of up to 128 tools enable high-throughput automated production. Control is provided by the Siemens 840D sl CNC system with 5-axis simultaneous contouring as an option. The FZ12 features an integrated workpiece changer for unattended operation and is designed for complete machining of complex precision components in a single setup. Machine overall dimensions and weight were not confirmed in publicly available documentation and should be obtained from Chiron Group directly. The FZ12 is deployed in aerospace, medical, automotive, and precision subcontract machining applications demanding high spindle power combined with exceptional speed and automation capability.
