Technical Description

The Mori Seiki NL1500/500 is a horizontal slant-bed CNC turning center from the NL Series, here in its basic 2-axis turning form with one spindle, a 12-station turret and a tailstock. Swing over bed is 923.8 mm (36.4 in), swing over cross slide is 755 mm (29.7 in), maximum turning diameter is 386 mm (15.2 in) with 20 mm tool shanks or 366 mm (14.4 in) with 25 mm shanks, and maximum turning length is 515 mm (20.2 in). Bar work capacity is 52 mm (2.0 in) through a 61 mm (2.4 in) spindle hole on a JIS A2-5 nose with a 6-inch chuck. The spindle runs to 6,000 rpm on an 11/11/7.5 kW (15/15/10 HP) motor rated 50%ED/30 min/continuous, with a 15 kW high-output motor and an 8,000 rpm high-speed spindle as options. The turret takes 16- and 20-station heads as options and indexes in 0.2 s. X- and Z-axis travels are 260 mm and 590 mm, with 30 m/min rapid traverse. The tailstock travels 564 mm, has an 80 mm quill and takes an MT4 live center. The machine stands 2,120 mm (83.5 in) high on a 2,705 x 1,922 mm floor space and weighs 5,300 kg (11,660 lb). Programming is through the MAPPS IV operating system. The same bed was sold as MC (milling), Y (Y-axis), S and SMC (second spindle) and SY versions.
