Technical Description
The Mori Seiki NL2500 is a 2-axis horizontal CNC turning center from the NL Series (NL1500, NL2000, NL2500, NL3000), introduced in 2004 and built until the NLX 2500 replaced it. It has a 10 in. standard chuck, a 356 mm (14.0 in.) maximum turning diameter, 923.8 mm swing over bed, and 80 mm (3.1 in.) bar capacity through a 91 mm spindle hole. The spindle has a JIS A2-8 nose, 140 mm front bearings and reaches 4,000 rpm, driven by an 18.5/18.5/15 kW motor (25%ED/50%ED/continuous), with a 26 kW option. A 12-station turret (10-station optional) takes 25 mm square shanks and boring bars up to 50 mm, and indexes in 0.2 seconds. X and Z rapid traverse is 30 m/min. The machine was built in 500, 700 and 1250 mm distance-between-centers versions; the 700 version turns up to 705 mm long, with 260 mm X and 795 mm Z travel and a 734 mm tailstock stroke with an MT5 live center. The same platform was offered as MC (milling turret, 6,000 rpm rotary tools), Y (Y-axis), S/SMC (second headstock) and SY versions. The NL Series won the 2004 Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun Machine Design Award and uses Mori Seiki's Built-in Motor Turret (BMT) on milling models. Machine mass is 5,800 kg for the NL2500/700.
