Technical Description
The DMG MORI NLX 2500Y is a first-generation NLX horizontal CNC turning center with a Y-axis turret for milling and drilling off the spindle centerline. It has a single main spindle with a JIS A2-8 nose and a 91 mm (3.58 in.) through-spindle hole, 80 mm bar capacity, and a standard maximum speed of 4,000 rpm driven by an 18.5 kW motor (25% ED; 15 kW continuous). Maximum turning diameter is 14.41 in. (366 mm) with the standard turret. The Y-axis offers plus/minus 50 mm (1.97 in.) of travel, and the BMT built-in motor turret runs rotary tools up to 10,000 rpm on a 5.5 kW drive. The machine was built in 700 and 1250 bed lengths, with maximum turning lengths of 705 mm and 1,255 mm respectively. Rapid traverse is 30 m/min on X and Z and 10 m/min on Y. DMG MORI designed the NLX with coolant circulating through the castings to control thermal displacement and with larger ball screws and higher X-axis rigidity than the earlier NL series. Typical work includes shafts, flanges and housings that need turning, milling, drilling and tapping in one setup.
