Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA 480 is a large 2-axis horizontal CNC turning center from the PUMA 480 series, in the standard-bed version without live tooling. It has a single main spindle, a 10-station turret and a tailstock. Swing over the bed is 900 mm (35.4 in), with 720 mm (28.3 in) over the saddle. Maximum turning diameter is 650 mm (25.6 in) and maximum turning length is 992 mm (39.1 in). Bar working capacity is 165.5 mm (6.5 in). The main spindle runs to 1,500 rpm with an A1-15 spindle nose and a 181 mm (7.1 in) through hole, driven by a 45 kW (60.3 hp, 30-minute rating) motor. Axis travels are 362 mm (14.3 in) in X and 1,105 mm (43.5 in) in Z, with rapid traverse of 16 m/min in X and 20 m/min in Z. The 10-station turret takes 32 x 32 mm OD tools and 80 mm boring bars and indexes in 0.25 seconds. The tailstock has a 120 mm (4.7 in) quill with an MT#6 taper and 120 mm of quill travel. The catalogue lists the Fanuc 32i-A control, with the Fanuc 31i-A as an option. The machine occupies 4,613 x 2,050 mm (181.6 x 80.7 in) with a height of 2,197 mm (86.5 in) and weighs 10,100 kg (22,267 lb).
