Technical Description
The Doosan PUMA 5100C is the big-bore, 2-axis version of the PUMA 4100/5100 series of heavy-duty horizontal CNC turning centers, aimed at pipe and large-diameter work. It swings 900 mm (35.4 in) over the bed and 690 mm (27.2 in) over the saddle, with a maximum turning diameter of 650 mm (25.6 in). The main spindle is driven by a 45 kW (60 hp) motor (37 kW continuous) and runs to 1,000 rpm with 4,463 N·m of torque; the chuck is order-made to suit the large bore. Travels are 362 mm in X and 1,105 mm in Z, with rapids of 16 m/min in X and 20 m/min in Z. A 10-station turret takes 32 x 32 mm OD tools and 80 mm boring bars and indexes in 0.25 s. The tailstock has a 120 mm quill. The machine is 2,056 mm wide and 2,194 mm high and weighs 10,650 kg (23,479 lb). It is a single-spindle machine without live tooling; the A and B versions of the PUMA 5100 have smaller bores with 15 or 21 inch chucks and higher speeds, and the LC version has a long bed.
