Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA SMX3100S is a multi-tasking turn-mill center with opposed left and right spindles and a B-axis milling head. It turns parts up to 26.0 in (660 mm) in diameter and 60.6 in (1,540 mm) long. The left spindle has an A2-11 nose, a 12 in chuck, 3,000 rpm top speed and a 40.2 hp (30 kW) 30-minute rating (33.5 hp continuous), with a 4.5 in spindle through hole and 4.0 in bar working diameter. The right spindle runs to 4,000 rpm on 30 kW, travelling on its own axis along the bed so parts can be transferred and finished on the back side. The milling spindle runs to 12,000 rpm and swivels on a B-axis of plus or minus 120 degrees, indexing in 0.0001-degree increments like the main C-axis, and takes CAPTO C6 tooling (HSK-A63 optional) from an automatic tool changer with a 1.8-second tool-to-tool time. The Y-axis travels 11.8 in (plus or minus 5.9 in) and Z-axis rapid traverse is 1,890 ipm on roller linear guideways. Machine weight is 36,817 lb (16,700 kg) and width is 118.5 in. The standard control on the series is the FANUC 31i, with FANUC 31i-5 for simultaneous 5-axis work.
