Technical Description

The EMAG VTC 315 DS is a vertical machining center designed for high-precision shaft production, integrating turning, hard turning, scroll-free turning, and CBN grinding. It accommodates workpieces up to 9.4" (240 mm) in diameter and 27.6" (700 mm) in length, clamped on a maximum 12.4" (315 mm) chuck. The machine features two axes (X: 15.4" / 390 mm, Z: 37.4" / 950 mm) with rapid traverse rates of up to 1,181 ipm and a max feed rate of 3,147 ipm, enabling fast, efficient machining. The main spindle rotates up to 4,000 rpm and supports up to 11 tools in an EMAG disc-type turret for versatile tool change and simultaneous operations, although only one cutting tool operates at a time. The vertical design ensures optimal chip flow and compact footprint. Unique to the VTC 315 DS is its capability for simultaneous, synchronous four-axis support grinding using opposing grinding spindles, which balances tangential forces and allows high-feed grinding of thin, complex shafts with minimal runout. The CNC-controlled tailstock and steadies reduce setup times, enabling complete shaft machining in a single setup that eliminates reclamping errors and boosts productivity. The robust structure, incorporating a Mineralit® polymer granite base, provides excellent damping and rigidity, suitable for demanding hard machining operations. Integrated loading, unloading, and workpiece storage facilitate automation, making the VTC 315 DS a highly flexible, all-in-one solution for precision shaft manufacturing in mid- to large-scale production environments.
