Technical Description

The 2004 Haas SL-20 is a two-axis CNC turning center from the Haas SL Series. It uses an 8.3-inch chuck on an A2-6 spindle nose with a 3.00-inch spindle bore and 2.0-inch bar capacity. The standard spindle is rated at 20 hp and turns up to 4,000 rpm, with torque of 154 ft-lb at 650 rpm. Maximum cutting diameter is 10.3 inches and maximum cutting length is 20.0 inches, or 19.0 inches with standard workholding. Swing is 23 inches over the front apron and 9.5 inches over the cross slide. Axis travel is 8.45 inches in X and 20.0 inches in Z, with 3,400 lb of thrust on both axes. Tooling is held in a 10-station turret that indexes in one second. Haas rated positioning accuracy at +/-0.0002 inch and repeatability at +/-0.0001 inch. The machine weighs 9,000 lb, needs 14 kVA at 200-250 VAC three-phase, holds 40 gallons of coolant, and uses 3 CFM of air at 100 psi. Factory options included the Big Bore package (2.5-inch bar, 30 hp, 10-inch chuck), 5,000 rpm and 7,000 rpm spindles, a programmable hydraulic tailstock, C axis and live tooling, a chip conveyor or auger, high-pressure coolant, a parts catcher, a tool presetter, and the Haas bar feeder.
