Technical Description

The Hardinge CHNC-I is a 2-axis precision CNC chucking lathe built by Hardinge in Elmira, NY, for high-precision work in industries such as aerospace and medical device manufacturing. It has a 16C collet/spindle nose with a 1-5/8 in hole through the spindle, and spindle speeds from 50-5,000 RPM driven by a 7.4 HP motor. Maximum swing over bed is 14 in, with a maximum turning and threading diameter of 8 in. X-axis travel is 4.5 in and Z-axis travel is 12 in. The machine has an 8-station turret. Depending on the individual unit, it was equipped with either a GE Fanuc O-T CNC control or a Siemens 810T control. Overall dimensions are approximately 90 in long x 70 in wide x 65 in tall, and the machine weighs approximately 5,500 lb. The CHNC-I is a compact, high-precision 2-axis turning center well suited to small-diameter, tight-tolerance parts.
