Technical Description

The Hardinge Elite 51 MS is a CNC turning center from Hardinge's Elite line, configured as a multi-spindle (main plus sub-spindle), live-tooling turning center. The main spindle uses an A2-6 nose with an 8-inch chuck capacity and a 2-inch round bar capacity, running to a maximum spindle speed of 5,000 rpm; the sub-spindle (A2-5 nose) runs to 6,000 rpm. The 12-station turret includes live milling capability driven to 6,000 rpm, and the machine provides C-axis contouring to 0.001 degrees. Equipment seen on inspected units includes a chip conveyor, coolant tank, tool presetter, bar feeder, and X-axis glass scale. Two independently listed 2007- and 2010-built units, both equipped with a FANUC 18i-TB control, report a maximum machining diameter of 11.1 inches and an approximate machine weight of 7,500 lbs. A third listing for the same model reports a larger 13.4-inch machining diameter and a lower 15 hp spindle rating, conflicting with the other two records (25 hp); both the spindle horsepower and the maximum workpiece length (reported as either a 16-inch center distance or a 14-inch turning length depending on source) are therefore left blank pending clarification. Overall machine footprint was not published in any source reviewed.
