Technical Description

The Hurco VMX42Di is a high-performance 3-axis vertical machining center designed for precision and versatility in demanding industrial applications. It features a powerful 14.9 kW (20 hp) direct-drive spindle with a maximum speed of 15,000 RPM and a torque of approximately 95 Nm at 1,500 RPM, enabling high-speed machining with superior surface finish and repeatability. The machine has a substantial working envelope with travels of 42" (1,067 mm) in X, 24" (610 mm) in Y, and 24" (610 mm) in Z, paired with a large worktable measuring 50" x 24" (1,270 x 610 mm) capable of supporting a load up to 1,360 kg (3,000 lbs). It incorporates a 40-station automatic tool changer (ATC) facilitating rapid tool changes, enhancing productivity. The VMX42Di’s frame is constructed from heavily ribbed fine-grade cast iron optimized through finite element analysis for maximum rigidity and vibration dampening, contributing to machining accuracy. It uses roller guide linear rails and double-nut pre-tensioned ballscrews anchored at both ends for reliable and precise axis movement. Rapid traverse rates reach up to 38 m/min on X and Y axes, and 32 m/min on Z. The machine includes advanced features such as a full enclosure with wide front access, chip conveyor, coolant supply, and high-pressure coolant through the spindle for efficient chip management and cooling. The unit is controlled by Hurco’s WinMax CNC control system, featuring conversational and NC programming modes with Ultimotion® technology that optimizes tool path velocity for reduced cycle times and improved surface finish. Overall height is approximately 120 inches, supporting ease of installation and operation in standard shop environments.
