Technical Description

The KNUTH Sinus 400/2000 manual lathe features a robust 32" swing over bedways and a 21" swing over cross slide, supporting heavy-duty machining with hardened guideways (>HB 400) for increased durability. It offers a large 4" spindle bore through-hole and operates at spindle speeds ranging from 9 to 1275 RPM, controlled via a manual multi-disc clutch for soft startup under heavy loads. The lathe includes a 21" diameter 4-jaw independent chuck and supports both inch and metric threading systems with an integrated thread dial. It is equipped with a quick-change tool post for efficient tooling swaps and chip pans for effective chip management. The machine is powered by a 10 HP, 440 Volt motor, delivering high torque and consistent power for demanding operations. Additional features include manual central lubrication, automatic lubrication for the headstock and main drive, protected lead screw, and overload protection for feed shafts. The lathe supports rapid feeds in both linear and cross directions, enhancing operational efficiency. The headstock uses a D1-8 spindle mount with a 5 MT taper and incorporates a spindle bore of approximately 4.1 inches. The machine also includes advanced functions such as coordinate display switching (ABS/INC), radius/diameter display, taper turning, and hole circle pattern calculations, facilitating precision machining tasks. The heavy, one-piece cast bed and removable gap bridge allow machining of large workpieces up to 79 inches in length and swinging diameters up to 32 inches over the bedways, with a maximum turning diameter of approximately 31 inches and 21 inches over the cross slide.
