Technical Description

The Mazak DUAL TURN 200 combines two 2-axis CNC turning centers in one machine, with a symmetrical layout of two opposed spindles and two turrets. Both spindles are built-in motor spindles that take 8 in chucks, run to 5,000 rpm and are rated 15 kW (20 hp) at 40% ED and 11 kW (15 hp) continuous, with 325 Nm of torque. The spindle bore is 76 mm and bar work capacity is 65 mm. Maximum machining diameter is 320 mm (12.6 in) and maximum machining length is 150 mm (5.9 in). Each side has a 12-position bolt-on drum turret with non-lift rotary indexing, taking 25 mm tool shanks and 40 mm boring bars. Each turret travels 230 mm in X and 500 mm in Z, with rapid traverse of 30.5 m/min in X and 33 m/min in Z. Workpieces transfer automatically from the first spindle to the second, so OP1 and OP2 run continuously from one chucking, and an automatic partition separates the two machining areas so each side can be run or loaded independently. A workpiece unloader is standard; bar feeder with unloading hand and GL-100 gantry loader packages are available. The machine is programmed with MAZATROL conversational programming, measures 3,420 x 1,795 mm with a height of 2,090 mm, and weighs 6,800 kg (14,991 lb). Mazak states it needs about 30% less floor space than two separate 2-axis lathes of the same class.
