Technical Description

The Mazak QUICK TURN 6G (QT-6G) is a compact gang-tool CNC lathe designed for high-speed production of small turned parts. Instead of an indexing turret, tools are mounted on a gang-style tool plate on the cross slide, so tool changes are made by short axis moves, which cuts non-cutting time on short-cycle work. The single spindle runs at up to 7,000 rpm and is driven by a 7.5 HP motor. Maximum machining diameter is 3.74 in, the spindle bore is 1.73 in, and bar work up to about 1.34 in diameter is handled through the spindle. X-axis travel is 11.81 in and Z-axis travel is 9.45 in, with rapid traverse rates of 787 in/min. The machine uses the MAZATROL EIA CNC, programmed in EIA/ISO G-code with graphic display. Typical configurations include a 5 in or 6 in collet or hydraulic chuck, a bar feeder or gantry loader, and a chip conveyor. The QT-6G was produced over a long period, with units dated from the mid-1990s into the 2010s, and is used for pins, bushings, fittings, fasteners, and small automotive, medical and electronic components in high-volume runs.
