Technical Description

The Mazak Quick Turn Universal 250MY is a multi-tasking CNC turning center built by Yamazaki Mazak in Florence, Kentucky. The MY designation means the machine has rotary (live) tooling on the turret and a Y-axis, so milling, drilling and tapping can be done off center in the same setup as turning. It has one main spindle with an 8 in chuck and a maximum speed of 4,500 rpm, and a 12-station milling turret. Maximum turning diameter is 13.4 in over a swing of 27.4 in, and maximum machining length is 21.03 in. A C-axis on the main spindle works with the Y-axis to machine flats, hex forms, cross holes and bolt patterns. A servo-driven programmable tailstock supports shaft work, and the machine accepts bar feeders, gantry loaders and robots for unattended production. The Quick Turn Universal series was Mazak's mid-range line between the Quick Turn Smart and the Quick Turn Nexus machines, and it runs a Mazatrol conversational control that also accepts EIA/ISO G-code. Typical work includes valve bodies, fittings, shafts and other parts that need both turned and milled features.
