Technical Description

The Mori Seiki CL-25 is a two-axis CNC chucking lathe built by Mori Seiki in Japan, produced from the late 1980s through the 1990s in several versions including the CL-25A and CL-25B. It is a compact chucker intended for flanges, hubs, bushings and other short parts held in the chuck rather than between centers, and the base machine is not fitted with a tailstock. The machine has a single spindle with an A2-8 spindle nose, typically fitted with a 12 in three-jaw chuck. Maximum swing over the bed is 20.5 in and maximum turning diameter is 17.7 in. A bolt-on turret carries the OD and ID tooling, and the X and Z axes are driven by servomotors through ball screws. Machines of this series were commonly supplied with the Mori Seiki MSC-518 control, a Fanuc-based CNC; spindle speed, spindle bore, turret station count and motor rating differ between the CL-25, CL-25A and CL-25B and between standard and big-bore spindles, so these should be confirmed on the individual machine.
