Technical Description
The Mori Seiki NL3000Y/3000 is a large multi-axis CNC turning center from Mori Seiki's NL series. The /3000 suffix is the bed size, giving a maximum turning length of 122.9 in for long shafts, and the Y designation means the turret carries rotary (live) tools with a Y-axis for off-center milling, drilling and tapping. The machine has one main spindle with a maximum speed of 3,000 rpm, a 4.13 in spindle bore and a 3.54 in bar capacity. Maximum turning diameter is 16.5 in over a swing of 39.17 in. Tools are mounted on a 12-station turret, with rotary tools running up to 6,000 rpm. A programmable tailstock supports long workpieces, and a C-axis on the spindle works with the Y-axis to cut flats, keyways, cross holes and bolt patterns without a second setup. The machine weighs 31,000 lbs. Typical work includes long drive shafts, oilfield components, rolls and hydraulic parts that need both turned and milled features. The NL series used Mori Seiki MSX-series controls built on FANUC hardware, with the version depending on the year of build.
