Technical Description

The Mori Seiki NLX2000SY is a CNC turning center from the NLX Series, built on a 500 mm distance-between-spindles bed (NLX2000SY/500). The SY configuration adds a Y-axis turret and a second spindle, so a part can be machined on both ends in one setup. Spindle 1 takes an 8-inch standard chuck on a JIS A2-6 nose, has 65 mm (2.5 in) bar work capacity and runs to 5,000 rpm on a 15/11 kW (20/15 hp) motor, with a 22/15 kW high-output motor as an option. Spindle 2 takes a 6-inch chuck and runs to 6,000 rpm on an 11/7.5 kW motor. The machine swings 923.8 mm (36.4 in) over the bed, turns up to 366 mm (14.4 in) diameter and 510 mm (20.0 in) length. All axes run on slideways. X-axis travel is 260 mm, Z-axis travel is 590 mm and Y-axis travel is 100 mm (plus or minus 50 mm), with 30 m/min rapid traverse on X and Z. The Built-in Motor Turret (BMT) has 12 stations as standard (10, 16 or 20 optional) and drives rotary tools up to 10,000 rpm on a 5.5 kW motor. Coolant circulates through the castings to control thermal displacement. Machine height is 2,145 mm (84.4 in) and the SY version weighs 5,500 kg (12,125 lb).
