Technical Description

The Mori Seiki SL-25B is a two-axis CNC turning center from Mori Seiki's SL series, a line of rigid box-way slant-bed lathes that was widely used in job shops from the late 1980s into the 2000s. It has a single A2-6 main spindle with a two-step geared headstock for low-speed torque, a speed range of 35 to 3,500 rpm, and a 20 hp spindle motor. The machine swings 20.5 in over the bed and 13.8 in over the cross slide, and the maximum turning length is 20.9 in. The standard workholding is a 10 in three-jaw hydraulic chuck, and a tailstock supports shaft work. The turret holds either 10 or 12 tools depending on the configuration. Controls were Mori Seiki-FANUC units that changed over the production run, including FANUC 0T and 15T based systems. The SL-25B handles chucking and bar work in steel, cast iron and aluminum and is used for general production and repair parts such as shafts, bushings, flanges and fittings. Bed-length versions such as /500 and /1000 exist; this listing does not specify the bed length.
