Technical Description

The Mori Seiki SL-25MC is a CNC turning center from Mori Seiki's SL series, fitted with a live-tool turret and a C-axis on the main spindle so milling, cross drilling and tapping can be done in the same setup as turning. It uses the same rigid box-way slant-bed design as the SL-25B, with a two-step geared headstock and a 20 hp spindle motor giving a speed range of 35 to 3,500 rpm. The spindle bore is 3.1 in and bar capacity is 2.5 in. Maximum turning diameter is 13.4 in, maximum turning length is 20.9 in, and the swing over the cross slide is 13.8 in. Tools are carried on a 12-station turret with rotary tool drive rated 5/3 hp. A hydraulic tailstock with a 4.33 in quill supports shaft work, and distance between centers is 24.6 in. The machine weighs 13,000 lbs. Controls were Mori Seiki-FANUC units that changed over the production run, including FANUC 10T and 16T based systems. Typical work includes flanges, valve parts, shafts and fittings that need flats, holes or slots added after turning.
