Technical Description

The Mori Seiki SL-403 is a heavy-duty two-axis CNC turning center in the SL series, built on a single-body bed and leg casting for high twisting and bending rigidity. The spindle is driven by a high-output, high-torque AC spindle motor intended for heavy and continuous cutting, and C-type machines include an oil chiller as standard equipment. The machine was offered in B and C spindle versions, with milling-capable BMC and CMC versions that add rotary tooling on the turret. Maximum turning diameter is 24.4 in on the B and C versions and 25.5 in on the BMC and CMC versions. Two bed lengths were built: the /800 type turns up to 37.7 in long and the /2000 type up to 84.9 in, with tailstock travel of 33.5 in and 78.7 in respectively. Bar capacity reaches 7.3 in on the largest-bore version. X-axis travel is 13.6 in and rapid traverse rates are 787 ipm on X and 945 ipm on Z. The turret indexes in 0.4 seconds per station. Current machines are offered with the MAPPS control or a FANUC control. The SL-403 suits large shafts, flanges and heavy chuck work in oil and gas, energy and general heavy machining shops.
