Technical Description
The Mori Seiki TL-40 is a two-axis horizontal CNC turning center built by Mori Seiki in Japan for heavy shaft and chucker work. The machine carries a single main spindle with a JIS A2-8 spindle nose and a 4.1 in through-hole, giving a bar capacity of 3.5 in. Swing over the bed is 24.4 in and maximum turning diameter is 17.3 in. The spindle is driven by a 30 hp (30-minute rating) motor with a 25 hp continuous rating and runs from 20 to 2,000 rpm on the 1990s machines documented by dealers. Tooling is carried on a 10-station turret. A programmable tailstock with an MT5 quill supports long work between centers. The TL-40 was offered in several bed lengths; the common /2000 configuration has 83 in between centers and 75 in of maximum turning length with 76.8 in of Z travel and 9.4 in of X travel. Controls fitted over the production run include Mori Seiki MSC-518 and FANUC 16T units,. Typical equipment on used machines includes a hydraulic chuck, chip conveyor and tailstock. The TL-40 suits oilfield, pump, roll and general heavy-duty turning where a large bore and long bed are needed.
