Technical Description

The Okuma LB3000 EX BB-M is a two-axis (plus live-tooling) horizontal CNC turning center from Okuma's LB-EX series, fitted with the Big-Bore (BB) main spindle option. The Big-Bore spindle carries a JIS A2-8 nose with a 3.58 in (91 mm) bore, giving a speed range of 42-4,200 rpm and a motor rating of 40 hp (30 kW) 30-minute / 30 hp (22 kW) continuous - Okuma's documented big-bore spindle specification, consistent across the LB3000 EX generation line. In the 1,000 mm bed-length configuration this unit carries, the machine handles a maximum turning diameter of 13.39 in (340 mm) and a maximum machining length of 39.37 in (1,000 mm), with a swing over bed of 22.83 in (580 mm). Tooling is handled by a 12-station turret with live-tool capability (milling spindle to 6,000 rpm), and the machine is built with a tailstock rather than a sub-spindle. The LB-EX series uses Okuma's slant-bed construction with an Okuma OSP CNC control. Big-Bore spindles trade top speed (the standard-bore spindle reaches 5,000 rpm) for a larger through-bore to accommodate bigger bar stock and heavier chucking work, making this configuration suited to shops turning larger-diameter parts than the standard-bore LB3000 EX allows.
