Technical Description
The Tormach 15L Slant-PRO is a compact CNC slant-bed lathe for small shops, prototyping, schools and light production. It swings 15 in over the bed and 6.2 in over the carriage, with 10 in of X-axis travel and 12 in of Z-axis travel. The spindle has a D1-4 camlock nose and a 5C taper with a removable insert; with the insert removed the spindle bore is 1.53 in. A 3 hp spindle motor drives the spindle through two belt ranges, 180 to 2,500 rpm in low range and 250 to 3,500 rpm in high range, and the recommended chuck size is 6 in. The X and Z axes use high-performance polyphase stepper motors with microstepping drivers and reach 60 in/min maximum feed. The machine runs Tormach's PathPilot controller, which offers conversational programming, rigid tapping, single-point threading and constant surface speed, with 80 GB of program memory. A full enclosure and a 10 gallon coolant tank are standard. Options include an 8-station turret, a gang tooling system, a quick-change tool post and an automatic 5C collet closer. The machine runs on single-phase 230 V power with a secondary 115 V circuit, so it can be installed without three-phase service. Typical system weight is 1,800 lb, and Tormach recommends a 72 x 42 in footprint.
