A+Technical Description
The 2014 Willemin-Macodel W408B is a 5-axis precision mill-turn center manufactured in Switzerland, designed for complete machining of small complex components in a single clamping. Rather than a flat work table, the W408B uses bar-feed and chuck workholding accommodating bar stock up to 40 mm (1.57 inches) in diameter, enabling turned, milled, drilled, and ground features to be completed in one setup. The machine provides 9.84 inches of X-axis travel, 7.87 inches of Y-axis travel, and 11.81 inches of Z-axis travel. The high-speed spindle delivers 13.4 HP continuously and reaches 30,000 RPM standard — with a 42,000 RPM option available — enabling fine finishing and micro-milling of hardened tool steels, titanium, aluminum, and precision alloys. The B-axis swivel head and A-axis rotary divider provide full 5-axis simultaneous contouring capability, and an optional back-working unit extends the machine to 6 or 7 axes. Fanuc 31i-B5 CNC control provides 5-axis simultaneous interpolation with high-speed block processing suited to complex micro-part programs. At approximately 3,748 pounds with overall dimensions of approximately 59 by 55 by 96 inches, the W408B is a compact but highly capable machine suited to medical device, watchmaking, aerospace fastener, and precision instrument manufacturers requiring complete machining of small complex components in minimum cycle time.
