Technical Description
The Yama Seiki SW-20 is a 20 mm sliding-headstock Swiss-type CNC lathe with a main spindle and a sub-spindle for complete front and back machining. It takes bar up to 20 mm (0.79 in) diameter with a maximum headstock stroke of 207 mm (8.15 in) per chucking. The main spindle reaches 10,000 rpm on a 2.2 kW continuous / 3.7 kW short-time motor and indexes in 0.01 degree steps under C-axis control. The sub-spindle runs to 8,000 rpm on a 1.5/2.2 kW motor, also with C-axis indexing, and chucks parts up to 20 mm for rear-end work. The gang tool zone carries 6 turning tools of 12 mm square shank, 4 ID holders with ER16 sleeves, and 5 to 10 power-driven tools on a 1.2 kW (1.63 hp) drive running up to 8,000 rpm. Driven-tool capacity is 8 mm drilling, M6 tapping and 10 mm end milling; stationary ID tools drill 10 mm and tap M8. A 4-position rear-end tool block supports back drilling and tapping, including driven tools, so front and back operations can run at the same time. Axis rapids are 24 m/min (945 ipm), the coolant tank holds 150 L, and the machine weighs about 2,300 kg (5,070 lb).
