Technical Description
The ACRA 18120C is a heavy-duty manual engine lathe featuring an 18-inch swing over the bed and 120 inches between centers, offering extensive capacity for large workpieces. It is powered by a robust 12.5 horsepower motor that drives the spindle up to 1,600 RPM through a geared headstock. The spindle bore diameter is 3.125 inches, allowing for substantial bar stock or tooling to pass through. The lathe has an 11-inch swing over the cross slide for versatility in machining operations.
Precision and durability are ensured by induction-hardened, precision ground Meehanite bedways with Turcite "B" on sliding surfaces to reduce wear and friction. The spindle is supported by three tapered roller bearings for enhanced stability and accuracy. The machine includes a totally enclosed universal inch/metric gearbox with no requirement for change gears and offers 16 spindle speeds ranging from 20 to 1,600 RPM to accommodate a wide variety of materials and cutting requirements.
Additional features include a forced lubrication system for the headstock, an adjustable apron clutch, forward and reverse feeds with matrix disc clutches, and a precision hand-scraped gap in the bed. Standard equipment encompasses a 4-way rapid indexing tool block, coolant system with full-length splash guard, chip and coolant tray, dead centers with reducing sleeves, and emergency stop button. The lathe is designed with operator safety and efficiency in mind, including features such as a full-length foot brake and safety overload feed clutch, making it suitable for high-precision, heavy-duty machining tasks.
