Technical Description

The ACRA 1860C is a precision gap bed engine lathe designed for general machining and production work. This manual lathe features an 18-inch swing over bed with a 28-inch swing in gap, allowing for larger workpiece diameters when utilizing the gap feature. The 60-inch distance between centers accommodates extended workpieces for longitudinal turning operations. The lathe is powered by a 12.5 HP main motor driving a high-performance three-bearing spindle with a 3.125-inch bore and D1-8 spindle nose. Spindle speeds range from 20 to 1,600 RPM across 16 steps, providing versatile speed options for various materials and cutting conditions. The cross slide travel of 11 inches enables wide facing and grooving operations, while the 5.375-inch compound slide travel supports precision angular cuts and threading. The lathe incorporates a totally enclosed universal inch/metric gearbox requiring no change gears, facilitating quick thread selection from 2-72 TPI in inch measurements and 0.2-14mm in metric. Feed rates range from 0.0015" to 0.04" per revolution longitudinally and 0.000075" to 0.02" per revolution cross-feed, ensuring precision finishing capabilities. The induction-hardened and precision-ground Meehanite bed ways with Turcite B sliding surfaces provide dimensional stability and reduced wear. Standard equipment includes a clutched headstock, coolant system with splash guard, 4-way rapid indexing tool block, and emergency stop button. This lathe is suitable for job shop and production environments requiring reliable manual operation with precision capabilities.
