Technical Description

The Akira Seiki SL25 is a two-axis (X/Z) CNC slant-bed turning center built by Akira Seiki Co., Ltd. in Taichung, Taiwan, and sits between the SL20 and SL30 in the maker's SL 2-Axis line. It runs the AKIRA Mi:845 control, which accepts Fanuc-style G code. Swing over the bed and front cover is 530 mm (20.9 in) and swing over the cross slide is 350 mm (13.8 in). Maximum cutting diameter is 350 mm (13.8 in) and maximum cutting length is 400 mm (15.7 in). An 8 in chuck mounts on an A2-6 spindle nose, and the draw tube bore is 52 mm (2 in). The spindle reaches 5,000 rpm, with peak output of 17 hp and peak torque of 202 N·m. X-axis travel is 195 + 15 mm and Z-axis travel is 435 mm, with 36 m/min rapid traverse and 10 m/min cutting feed on both axes. The 12-station turret takes 20 mm O.D. tools and 32 mm boring bars, with a 0.35-second adjacent tool change. An MT4 tailstock with 100 mm quill travel is optional. Positioning accuracy is 0.01 mm and repeatability is ±0.003 mm. The coolant tank holds 160 L, chips go to a drawer as standard with a conveyor optional, and the machine needs a 25 kVA supply. Floor space is 2,450 x 1,500 mm and weight is 4,000 kg.
