Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA 240C is a 2-axis slant-bed CNC turning center from the PUMA 240 series, which was offered in A, B and C spindle versions. The C version is the large-bore, high-torque variant: its spindle runs to 3,500 rpm on an A2-8 spindle nose and carries a 10-inch chuck with a 3-inch bar capacity. The machine has a 21.7-inch swing over the bed, a maximum turning diameter of 13.78 inches and a maximum turning length of 21.65 inches. Tooling is held in a 12-station turret with 25 mm square OD tool shanks and 40 mm boring bars. A tailstock with an MT4 quill taper and 80 mm quill travel supports long work. The spindle is driven by a 25 hp motor. Controls on this generation are FANUC-based; the series brochure lists the FANUC 21i-T, and the Daewoo FANUC-i (D-IT) control appears on some builds. The machine occupies a floor space 62.68 inches wide and 68.5 inches high. The series was introduced under the Daewoo name, and units built from 2005 onward carry Doosan branding after Doosan acquired the Daewoo machine tool business. The PUMA 240C is suited to bar and chucker work on medium-diameter shafts, flanges and fittings where a larger spindle bore and lower-speed torque are needed.
