Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA 300C is a 2-axis CNC turning center in the PUMA 300 series, where the C suffix denotes the large-bore spindle version. It is built on a heavy box-way bed and uses a two-speed gearbox to deliver high torque at low spindle speeds. The spindle runs to 2,800 rpm on an A2-11 nose, with a 4.53-inch spindle bore and a draw tube that accepts bar stock of about 4 inches. The 30-minute spindle motor rating is 35 hp. Capacity includes a 23.2-inch swing over the bed, a 17.7-inch swing over the carriage, a maximum turning diameter of 15.7 inches and a maximum turning length of 24.8 inches. The standard workholding is a 12-inch hydraulic chuck, and tools are held in a 12-station turret. A programmable hydraulic tailstock supports shaft work. Late-production units from the 2010s were supplied with FANUC controls, including the FANUC 0i-TD. The large bore and gearbox make the PUMA 300C suited to pipe, tube and large bar work, such as oilfield couplings, flanges and hydraulic components, where a through-spindle capacity of about 4 inches is needed.
