Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA 3100Y is a horizontal CNC turning center with a 12-inch chuck, live tooling and a Y axis, built on the standard bed of the PUMA 3100 series. It swings 850 mm (33.5 in) over the bed and 670 mm (26.4 in) over the saddle, with a maximum turning diameter of 420 mm (16.5 in), a maximum turning length of 765 mm (30.1 in) and a bar capacity of 102 mm (4.0 in). The standard belt-driven main spindle has an A2-11 nose and a 115 mm (4.5 in) through hole and runs to 2,800 rpm on a 22 kW (30 hp) motor (18.5 kW continuous); a 3,000 rpm built-in spindle was optional. The C axis indexes in 0.001 degree steps. A 12-station turret carries driven tools at up to 5,000 rpm and indexes in 0.15 s. Travels are 293 mm in X, 830 mm in Z and 130 mm (plus/minus 65 mm) in Y, with rapids of 30 m/min in X and Z and 10 m/min in Y. The tailstock has a 100 mm quill with MT#5 taper. Floor space is about 3,910 x 2,002 mm and the machine weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb). It has a single spindle; the SY version adds a sub-spindle.
