Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA 400LB is a heavy-duty horizontal CNC turning center from the Doosan Infracore PUMA 400 series, in the long-bed (L) configuration with the mid-size B spindle. It uses a true 45-degree one-piece slant bed of Meehanite cast iron with box guideways, and a geared headstock with an A2-11 spindle nose, a 132 mm (5.2 in) spindle through hole and a 117 mm (4.6 in) bar working diameter. Maximum spindle speed is 2,000 rpm, and the main motor is rated 26 kW (34.9 hp) for 30 minutes and 22 kW (29.5 hp) continuous. Standard workholding is a 15-inch (380 mm) hydraulic chuck. The machine swings 30.3 in over the bed and 23.2 in over the saddle, with a maximum turning diameter of 21.65 in and a maximum turning length of 82.4 in. Axis travels are 14.1 in in X and 84.8 in in Z, with rapid traverse of 629.9 ipm (X) and 708.7 ipm (Z). The hydraulic turret has 10 stations with a 0.25-second index and accepts 60 mm boring bars. The tailstock has a 120 mm quill with an MT#6 taper. Floor space is about 224.5 x 96.1 in, height 90.8 in, and machine weight is 11,000 kg (24,251 lb). It is a two-axis, single-spindle machine without live tooling; the LMB variant adds a C-axis and milling.
