Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA 480L is a heavy-duty 2-axis horizontal CNC turning center with the long bed of the PUMA 480 series. It swings 900 mm (35.4 in) over the bed and 720 mm (28.3 in) over the saddle, with a maximum turning diameter of 650 mm (25.6 in), a maximum turning length of 2,042 mm (80.4 in) and a bar capacity of 165.5 mm (6.5 in). The main spindle has an A1-15 nose, a 181 mm (7.1 in) through hole and 240 mm front bearings. It is driven through a 2-step gearbox by a 45 kW (60 hp) 30-minute rated motor (37 kW continuous) and runs to 1,500 rpm. Travels are 362 mm in X and 2,155 mm in Z, with rapids of 16 m/min in X and 18 m/min in Z. A 10-station turret takes 32 x 32 mm OD tools and 80 mm boring bars. The tailstock has a 120 mm quill with an MT#6 taper and 120 mm quill travel. The machine measures about 5,733 x 2,124 mm with a height of 2,200 mm and weighs 11,550 kg (25,463 lb). It is a single-spindle machine; the LM version adds a C axis and live tooling, and the LD version a big-bore spindle.
