Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA 700L is a large 2-axis horizontal CNC turning center for heavy-duty cutting of long shafts, pipes and large-diameter parts. It has box guideways and a three-step gearbox spindle with an A1-15 nose, a 240 mm front bearing and a 181 mm (7.1 in) through hole; bar working diameter is 164 mm (6.5 in). The main spindle runs to 1,500 rpm on a 45 kW (60 hp) motor, 37 kW continuous, producing 6,605 Nm of torque; a 75 kW motor was optional. Swing over the bed is 40.6 in and over the saddle 31.5 in. Maximum turning diameter is 35.4 in and maximum turning length is 126 in, and the machine carries a 24 in chuck. X and Z travels are 18.5 in and 127 in, with rapid traverse of 472 and 394 in/min. The 12-station BMT85P-type turret takes 32 mm square OD tools and 80 mm boring bars and indexes in 0.25 s. The tailstock has a 160 mm quill with 150 mm travel and an MT6 taper. The L version measures 7,360 x 2,770 x 2,590 mm (289.8 x 109.1 x 102.0 in) and weighs 21,800 kg (48,060 lb). The current build uses a FANUC 32i control. The PUMA 700 series also comes in M (milling) and LY (Y-axis) versions and short and XL bed lengths.
