Technical Description

The Doosan PUMA MX1600 is a compact 6-inch-chuck multitasking turn-mill center, the smallest model in Doosan's PUMA MX series. It combines a turning spindle with a B-axis milling spindle on a Y-axis slide, fed by an automatic tool changer. The left spindle has an A2-5 nose, a 62 mm (2.44 in) through hole, 44 mm bar capacity (51 mm option) and a top speed of 6,000 rpm, driven by a 15 kW (20.1 hp) 30-minute / 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous motor, with C-axis indexing. The milling spindle uses a Capto C5 tool interface, reaches 12,000 rpm, is rated 9/3.7 kW and swivels 240 degrees on the B axis. The ATC holds 40 tools as standard (80 optional) with a 2.1-second tool-to-tool change. Swing over the bed is 680 mm (26.8 in), maximum turning diameter 330 mm (13.0 in) and maximum turning length 900 mm (35.4 in). Travels are X1 450 mm, Z1 935 mm and Y 170 mm (plus or minus 85 mm), with 36 m/min rapids on X1 and Z1. The base MX1600 has a tailstock (MT4); the S version adds a right-hand sub-spindle and the T/ST versions add a 16-station lower turret. The machine is controlled by a FANUC 31i. The base machine measures 3,800 x 2,530 mm with a height of 2,760 mm and weighs 11,100 kg.
