Technical Description
The Doosan PUMA MX1600ST is a multi-tasking turning center that combines twin opposed spindles, a B-axis milling spindle with automatic tool changer and a lower turret. It is designed for complete machining of complex small and medium parts in one setup. The main (left) spindle runs to 6,000 rpm with 15 kW (20 hp) and 208 Nm of torque, and has a 52 mm (2.05-inch) through-hole; the right spindle has a 50 mm through-hole. The milling spindle turns to 12,000 rpm with 9 kW (12 hp), swivels through a 240-degree B-axis and works with a 40-tool magazine that changes tools in 2.1 seconds. A 16-station BMT-45 lower turret with 6,000 rpm rotary tools allows simultaneous machining. Y-axis travel is 170 mm (plus or minus 85 mm), X1 travel is 17.7 inches and Z1 travel is 36.8 inches, with 1,417 in/min rapids on X1 and Z1. Maximum turning diameter on the main spindle is 12.99 inches and maximum turning length is 35.43 inches. The machine measures 149.61 inches long, 99.61 inches wide and 108.66 inches high and weighs 25,573 lb. It uses FANUC 31i-series 5-axis controls, allowing full 5-axis contouring.
