Technical Description

The 2020 Fryer 5X120 is a 5-axis vertical machining center built by Fryer Machine Systems of Patterson, New York. Designed for large-format five-axis work, the 5X120 features an articulating Kessler spindle head that provides continuous A-axis rotation of 360 degrees and C-axis tilt of 240 degrees, enabling full five-axis simultaneous contouring without moving the workpiece. The machine's 120-inch X-axis travel accommodates exceptionally long workpieces with a 32-inch Y travel and 28-inch Z travel. The 120 x 32-inch worktable supports loads up to 10,000 lbs, making the 5X120 well suited to aerospace structural components, large molds, energy sector parts, and heavy fabrications requiring complex contouring. The spindle delivers 40 HP with speeds up to 18,000 RPM through a Big Plus CAT-40 taper interface, providing excellent torque and speed range for a variety of materials. A 24-station automatic tool changer supports uninterrupted multi-tool operations. CNC motion control is provided by the Fryer/Siemens 840D sl system (Fryer 2100 CNC), offering advanced five-axis interpolation, RTCP (rotational tool center point), and Siemens CNC architecture. The 5X120 weighs approximately 42,000 lbs, reflecting the heavy-duty construction required for precision large-format five-axis work.
