Technical Description

The 2018 Haas Super Mini Mill 2 is a 3-axis vertical machining center that combines the high-speed spindle capability of the Super Mini Mill with an extended Z-axis for greater workpiece clearance and tooling flexibility. The machine provides a 16 x 12 x 14 inch work envelope (X, Y, Z travels), with the 14-inch Z-axis offering an additional 4 inches of clearance compared to the standard Super Mini Mill. The 18 x 16 inch T-slot worktable accommodates a wide range of workholding configurations. The direct-drive spindle operates at up to 10,000 RPM and is powered by a 7.5 HP vector drive motor with a CAT40 taper, well-suited for aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and plastics requiring high-speed finishing. The combination of high spindle speed and extended Z-axis makes the Super Mini Mill 2 particularly effective for tall workpieces such as molds, fixtures, and complex aluminum components. High-precision ballscrews on all three axes deliver accurate and repeatable positioning across the full work envelope. The Haas NGC control provides an intuitive operator interface with built-in programming aids and full G-code compatibility. The rigid cast iron construction minimizes vibration during high-speed cutting operations. Standard features include a coolant system, chip management, and automatic tool changer. At approximately 3,700 lbs, the Super Mini Mill 2 is slightly heavier than the Super Mini Mill due to its extended column, but maintains the compact floor footprint that makes this series ideal for space-constrained shops.
