Technical Description

The 2004 Haas VF1D is a 3-axis vertical machining center based on the VF1 platform and configured for die and mold machining applications. The VF1D retains the compact footprint of the standard VF1 while incorporating features optimized for contour-intensive work and precision surface finishing common in toolmaking and moldmaking environments. The machine features a 24 x 16 inch T-slot worktable with axis travels of 20 inches in X, 16 inches in Y, and 20 inches in Z, providing adequate reach for small to medium die sets and mold bases. Power is supplied by a 20 HP vector drive spindle motor driving a CAT40 taper spindle at up to 7,500 RPM, delivering the combination of torque and speed suited to both roughing and finishing operations in tool steel and hardened materials. The Haas CNC control system provides full G-code and M-code compatibility along with high-speed machining modes, rigid tapping, tool life management, and Haas's integrated programming environment. High-speed lookahead and smooth interpolation functions support the complex 3D contouring paths typical of die and mold work. Standard equipment includes an automatic tool changer, flood coolant system, chip management, and work light. The VF1D is well-suited for job shops and tool rooms producing small die components, injection mold cavities, and precision fixtures where a compact, capable VMC with die/mold-oriented features is required.
